We are now seeking applications for our Cadetship Program!

Applications are welcomed from

  • Year 12 students in the Narrabri/Gunnedah/Werris Creek/Tamworth area who are about to commence Mining related degrees
  • University Students who have undertaken vacation employment with Whitehaven Coal and are supported by the relevant Line Manager.

The benefits of the Whitehaven Coal Cadet program offers annualised financial support ( Scholarship) and work experience during designated semester and summer breaks for the tenure of the university degree. Vacation employment is not mandatory.

Upon successful completion of their degree Cadets maybe offered a Whitehaven Coal Graduate position, offering full time employment.

Eligible applicants will have aspirations to pursue or are already undertaking an undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Geology, or Environmental Science.

Studies would be undertaken at NSW or QLD’s major tertiary institutions, including but not limited to: University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong, University of Newcastle, University of Queensland or Central Queensland University.

What are we looking for in selection of Scholarship recipients to participate in our program:

  • Year 12 students currently residing in the Narrabri, Gunnedah, Werris Creek or Tamworth region,
  • Current University students undertaking Mining relevant degrees
  • Ability and motivation to successfully complete the University degree
  • Academic progress throughout high school / university years
  • Paid work experience is available
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Any awards, qualifications or other significant achievements to date including school, community, sporting or other
  • Location of roles for Scholarship recipients: Located at our operational mine sites and our Gunnedah operations office.
